Casa Masaccio centro per l’arte contemporanea has fostered research and investigation in art since 2006 by promoting relational aesthetics practices and participatory art forms through several “workshops”; true experiential laboratories underpinning production and design projects focused on the town of San Giovanni Valdarno and its surroundings. Some of the past experiences were Isole del Tesoro, generacomunicazioni.tv, La città (in)visibile. Vivere insieme nella città diffusa del Valdarno. In 2011, a far-reaching project was launched: the Casa Masaccio in Residence programme, which was specifically devised to facilitate the mobility of national and international artists and curators. An action aimed at targeting art as an instrument to understand our present and its transformations, to create a bridge between memory and present time. The apartments and art studios reserved to the artists who join the Casa Masaccio in Residence programme are located inside Palazzo Salviati, in the very heart of the historic centre of San Giovanni Valdarno, in direct contact with the local community and the history of the town. The selected venue therefore provides the perfect framework to conceive and create works and projects that blend the historic, artistic, and cultural heritage with new artistic languages.
